The Cirnechi breed is a
very ancient one of Sicilian origin
from precisely the vicinity of Etna. Coins and engravings
prove in effect that the Cirnechi existed in those parts many
centuries BC.
The name is pronounced [chirneco] the C is pronouced
CH, and the plural is Cirnechi, meaning more than one.
The breed is not disimilar to other Mediteranean breeds such
as the Pharaoh Hound and Podenco Canario, although the
Cirnechi is much smaller is stature and is a squarer dog not
longer in body like the others mentioned, their personalities
are very different also, wanting to be with their master most of
the time and they are also quite protective of their people and
property. A lovely little Sighthound that will fit in
anywhere.
Size: Dogs 46-50cms (18 ¼ -19
½ ins) Bitches 42-46 cms (16
½ - 18 ¼ ins).
Colour: Self coloured. Light
sand, Isabella, light to dark tan. Tan with a mixture of slightly
lighter and darker hairs allowed.
White markings allowed on chest, toes, head, foreface and
tip of tail.
Gait/Movement: Springy trot without excessive extension.
Viewed from behind, hind legs track the forelegs. Tendency to
throw feet sideways or hackney
action undesirable. |
